The Basics

All text highlighted in Cyan is text you can type exactly like it appears here, on the mud.

On the mud, you play a character with certain attributes, skills and other special abilities. Everything in the world is described to you with text, unlike other computer or video games. You interact with the game world by typing commands, although some interaction can be automated in the game like fleeing when you get low on health "help wimpy", or showing the map as you move around "help automap" "help map".

The game has an extensive help library, be sure to read help files. Start by just typing "help" or "help newhelp".

Your character's stats can be viewed by typing "score" or "whois", they both show statistics, one showing some that the other doesn't. You can "whois" other people, like "whois marick" (whois requires the player in question to be online), but everybody's 'score' output is secret to them. Check out "help score" and "help whois".

Your equipment, or eq for short, is the items that your character is wearing. "help equipment" Eq modifies your character's attributes and may add to skill percentages. Also, armor pieces increase your armor class, or ac for short. "help ac" A higher ac means you take less damage in combat. Only items that appear in the list displayed by "eq" is equipment you are currently wearing. Simply carrying equipment has no benefit to your character.

When you die, your corpse is lying in the room where you died, with all the equipment you were wearing in it. (Your corpse is basically a container, but you can't put anything in it.) If you struggle to get your corpse/eq back yourself, read in the Services section about CR's. You might have to ask for one. If you manage to get your corpse back, the fastest way to get back to full fighting capacity are the commands "get all corpse" and then "wear all".

Type "inv" to see what your character is carrying around. Like what was stated above, everything listed in "inv" is of no benefit to your character, with the exception of Boats. Read page 2 of your newbie guide for details on boats and crossing rivers/oceans.

To pick up an item from the ground, "get shield"
To get from a container, "get shield from bag" This also works for looting corpses, "get shield from corpse"
To put in a container, "put shield in bag"
To drop, "drop shield"
To equip, "wear shield"     "wield sword"

To unequip, "remove shield"

Please read "help remove"
If there is more than one item, "get 2.shield"   "put 3.shield in 2.bag" where the last item picked up or moved around is considered item number 1. These are normally at the top of the list.

There are two ways to cast spells, the first method is type the name of the spell in ' quotes, like this:

"cast 'cause light' goblin"

The second method is to use the spell's number. Every spell in the game has a number assigned to it. You can view these numbers by typing "spells" and checking the numbers in parenthesis () at the end of each line. So then the command would be, for cause light:

"cast 12 goblin"
